Skip Bin Hire Length

The industry standard for skip bin hire is 7 days. You don’t have to keep your bin for 7 days. When you use our online skip bin hire booking system, it will allow you to choose up to a maximum of 7 days.

If you hire for 7 days and finish with your bin early, simply give our friendly customer service team a call and we can arrange for early collection.

Waste Types

When you hire a skip bin you will need to decide what waste type you will be putting into the bin. The waste type and bin size dictates the price for the skip hire.

The waste types we have to choose from are:

  • Household Waste
  • General Waste
  • Green Waste & Timber
  • Heavy Waste
  • Soil
  • Clean Concrete

Each waste type has allowed and not allowed items.

Choosing the right size of skip bin

It can definitely be tricky to calculate the correct skip bin size if you don’t hire skip bins often.

The way you load the skip bin will also affect how efficiently your waste fits in the bin. For example, if you put large items such as long pieces of timber that won’t sit flat at the bottom of the bin then you may create dead space in the bin.

It’s important not to overfill the bin above the top rails as this will mean the bin can’t be removed and additional fees may be incurred. Overfilled bins create a very dangerous hazard on the roads as items can fly off the skip truck while it’s in motion.

If your waste is already in a pile then you may be able to do some measurements on that pile of waste to calculate the approximate size of skip bin required.

It is always wise to go slightly larger on your skip bin to save you having left over waste that can’t fit in the bin.

Placing The Bin

Most of the time, skip bins are placed either on the front lawn or driveway.

When placing on a driveway it’s important to be aware that there can be the chance of scratching, scraping of concrete or damage and cracking of tiled driveways. Where possible we would recommend placing on grass. There may also be damage to grass from the weight of the truck and its’ tyres in addition to the skip bin. Fortunately, grass will always grow back!

It is not usually legal to place a skip bin on a nature strip, road or easement unless council approval is obtained. You can speak to your local Ipswich City Council about obtaining a permit to place a skip bin on public land.
